CROSS: Summer Interns

Summer 2008

Tyler Massey, Christine Gourley, and Emily Carpenter

Tyler graduated from Davidson College in 2008 and both Emily and Christine are students at UNC Chapel Hill. They worked with over 26 congregations over the summer totaling 463 people. They all bulit great relationships with one another, the churches, and the 27 agencies they served over the summer as they served Christ. You would be able to find them after a hard day and evening of work sipping coffee on the screened porch of Cornerstone.

Quote:  The CROSS internship is a beautiful ministry that opens the eyes and hearts of its participants to urban poverty, recognizing that those in need have much to offer to the needs of those more fortunate in life; I was blessed to be one such participant as a staff member.

Quote:  My favorite part of the CROSS program was seeing kids faces at the Homeless 101 panels which was where my own stereotype of homelessness was demolished as well.

Katherine Miller

Summer Intern 2003

Graduate of UNC Wilmington and attending Columbia Theological in Atlanta, GA

Quote: My favorite part of my CROSS experience was working with the youth and groups who came to serve as
well as with the neighbors at the Urban Ministry Center.  Through the UMC my eyes were opened to the varieties of ways that we are able to minister to those in need.  Since that time, I have also encountered many people with whom I worked at CROSS and have realized how important the relationships founded during that summer have been to my Christian experience.
