Weekday School 2008-2009
Accredited by The National Academy of Early Childhood Programs/NAEYC

The Weekday School is part of the Christian Education program of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Policy is set by the Weekday School Board which is responsible to the Session. It is open to both church and community children and operates from September to May each year. It is offered in the belief that a child's growth in the Christian faith is nurtured by loving adults who are themselves persons of faith.

The Weekday School program is for children one to five years of age, as of August 31,2007. School hours are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children are requested to bring a simple lunch and drink each day.

Myers Park Presbyterian Church Weekday School leaders participate in national, state and local early childhood education opportunities. Parents are invited to observe class sessions, attend parent education opportunities, have individual conferences with teachers, volunteer time in appropriate ways in the school and attend all scheduled school parent meetings.

CURRICULUM STATEMENT

Myers Park Presbyterian Church Weekday School establishes curriculum on how children learn, rather than what they should know. We evaluate each child where he/she is now, not where we think he/she ought to be. We believe that children learn most effectively through a play-oriented approach, with curriculum specifically suited to each developmental level. These principles are based on professionally researched guidelines defined by the National Assocation for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and provide us with the framework for creating an optimal environment in which we may nurture children's growth and development. Curriculum is a child's overall experience in this preschool environment.

Further, we believe that a child's everyday human experiences form the basic content of his/her religious growth. Faith, like all areas of development, grows through interaction. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere of Christian love and acceptance that nurtures the growth of each child spiritually, understanding each as a child of God.
