Foundations for Faith
Core Courses at The Academy at MPPC
The Academy at Myers Park Presbyterian Church offers twelve core designed to provide a basic working foundation of Christian beliefs and practice for every adult Christian disciple either to begin a life of faith or to build upon an existing faith, growing into greater maturity and deeper discipleship.
Who would benefit?
- non-member seekers investigating the Christian faith
- new disciples of Christ just beginning a life of faith
- new members of Myers Park Presbyterian Church
- MPPC members who come from non-Presbyterian/Reformed faith traditions
- adults who learned their faith as children and youth in Sunday School and are now ready for a deeper, adult life of faith
- adults who have not yet participated in a structured, college-level introduction to Christian belief and practice
- adults who would enjoy an organized refresher in things they may have studied long ago
- church members preparing for, or serving, as officers in the church
- teachers and leaders of children, youth, and adults who need clarity about their own faith in order to teach others
Who can participate?
Foundations for Faith is open to everyone — church members and friends as well as community neighbors.
Content
Courses are offered in each of the four main content areas of The Academy: The Bible, Theology and Church History, Christian Living, and Spiritual Growth
Scheduling
The core courses will be offered through The Academy in a repeating cycle so that all twelve can be completed within a three year period.
Foundations for Faith Certification
In addition to open enrollment in the core courses, The Academy is offering a certificate track. Participants are invited and encouraged to sign a commitment to complete all twelve core courses. Once enrolled for certification, The Academy will track enrollment and attendance. Upon completion of the twelve core courses participants will receive a Foundations for Faith Certificate of Completion and suitable public recognition. Some of the advanced courses offered by The Academy will require Foundations for Faith Certification as a prerequisite.
