Baptism at MPPC
Brief theology and information on scheduling baptism

Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is given by God to the church to assure us of God's love and help us to be faithful. In baptism we acknowledge Christ's crucifixion and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins, we are accepted into the fellowship of the church and recognized as members of the family of God. The sacrament of baptism always takes place in the presence of the gathered community of faith, that is, in worship services.

Adult Baptism. Baptism is available to adults and youth (usually over 12 years of age) upon profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You may speak to one of the ministers at any time (704-376-3695) to receive information, counseling, or to schedule baptism.

Infant Baptism. We believe that in baptism we are responding to grace which has already been given to us by God in Christ Jesus. In presenting their child(ren) for baptism, parents are responding to that grace on their child(ren)'s behalf, and promise to raise their child(ren) to know, love, and serve the Lord. The congregation joins the parents in pledging to uphold a responsibility that is both sacred and rewarding.

Parents of children to be baptized must attend a session conducted by one of the ministers. At least one parent must be a member of the church. You may schedule an appointment by calling the Worship Assistant in the church office, 704-376-3695, Ext. 252.

Before that meeting, parents will be mailed a packet of information, including a form that must be filled out and returned to the Worship Assistant. The form gives parents date and time options for scheduling their child(ren)'s baptism. Once that form has been received in the church office, Worship Assistant will send a letter of confirmation to the parents. Parents are asked to wait until they have received confirmation before making any plans for the baptism. This is to ensure that both the family and the church are in concurrence with the schedule.
