2007 promises to be an exciting year for Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Habitat for Humanity. Over the last two decades, MPPC has built a house each year through Habitat’s Adopt-A-Home Program. This year, MPPC will expand its commitment to Habitat by sponsoring five new projects. Details about each of these progams and other ways to be involved can be found on this web site.
Clergy Build - Fall 2007
MPPC partnered with Mecklenburg Ministries in their effort in recuriting 60 local clergy to participate in the first annual Clergy Build. Participating clergy committed their time on the worksite and $1,000 each to fund a Habitat house. MPPC lent its support to this build by providing house, task and crew leaders.
Town Home Project – Spring 2008
MPPC will serve as the lead partner in HFH-Charlotte’s first multi-family housing project. Preliminary plans include building four attached town homes during the spring of 1008. MPPC will recruit volunteers to serve as crew members, lunch providers and task/crew leaders.
El Salvador “Building Hopes” Brigade – February and August 2008
Habitat for Humanity El Salvador’s global church partnership campaign encourages local Salvadoran and international churches to participate in their Building on Faith program. In 2007, MPPC funded four homes in El Salvador and sent its first all MPPC working brigade as part of El Salvador's Building on Faith project. MPPC will recruit 8-15 volunteers from the congregation for each brigade.
Olympic Community of Schools Partnership – Spring 2007
Area high school students constructed a Habitat house as part of their school curriculum. MPPC volunteers served as advisors, particularly in educating the students about the Habitat mission and purpose.
