Myers Park Presbyterian Church Worship
Traditional and Contemporary Worship Styles For All Those Seeking Christ

The members of our congregation are seeking to be an extension of the work of God begun in Jesus Christ and be a witness to that work in the community, the nation, and the world. MPPC welcomes all persons who seek to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ and who want to grow and mature as Christ’s faithful disciples. In Christian hospitality, we invite all persons -- members, friends, and inquirers -- to join us in the life, work, and witness that make up our response to the amazing grace we have received from God in Jesus Christ our Lord.

We value our visitors and invite you, on your journey of faith, to become part of this vibrant worshiping and serving community. Join us for Sunday School, an Academy course, a Bible study, building a Habitat house, or serving at the Urban Ministry Center. Sing in our choirs; join a small group; be a part of an Intercessory Prayer team. There are numerous ways to serve Christ and make a difference in the world. Through worship, prayer, study, fellowship and laughing and learning, we seek to know God in our midst and make God known to others.

Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month in all services. Baptisms are scheduled throughout the year. Child care is available during all services for infants through kindgarteners. During the traditional service, children worship with their parents and may leave midway through the service for children’s programming. A variety of opportunities exist for lay persons to participate in worship.

How Do I Find Parking?

Myers Park Presbyterian Church is located just minutes from Uptown Charlotte at the corner of Oxford Place and Providence Road (near the intersection of Providence Road and Queens Road). Two parking lots are located off Oxford Place with handicap access, and one lot is located directly across from the church off Providence Road, with a crosswalk traffic light. Overflow on-street parking is available on Sunday mornings and during events on Providence Road, Oxford Place, and Queens Road. Please observe all posted signs as the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department will ticket (and in some cases tow away) illegally parked vehicles.

What Do Presbyterians Believe?

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.

---from the Brief Statement of Faith (1991),Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

As a Presbyterian church, we trace our roots to the Protestant Reformation, which took place in Europe in the sixteenth century. At that time, people in many countries began to claim:

-- the freedom to read and respond to the Bible for themselves

-- the freedom to have a direct relationship with God, without the mediation of a priest or the church authority

-- the freedom to set their own consciences against the demands of religious institutions

The influence of Martin Luther in Germany and particularly John Calvin’s theological and church reforms in Geneva gave rise to the Scottish Reformation, led by John Knox. Throughout the seventeenth century this developed into the Presbyterian system of church government, which was brought to America by some of the earliest immigrants from Europe. Today, through its worship, mission, and congregations, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) seeks to be, in the words of the earliest reformers, “Reformed and always being Reformed.”
