Making Disciples, Making Leaders offers a unique model for selecting and training church officers that is grounded in spiritual discernment and development. The book begins with a biblical understanding of leadership, moves into consideration for how to train a nominating committee to select leaders according to the biblical vision, and then offers a step-by-step plan for a training event with three components. The book includes concrete suggestions for how future work of the church can be structured to reflect the emphases highlighted in the training session. Multiple tools for the leader are included in the back of the book, including handouts, charts, and worksheets.'

Dr. Eason is currently serving as a trustee of the Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia. A native of North Carolina, Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University (’76), his Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School (’79), and his Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary (’93).  He was certified as a pastoral counselor with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors in 1984.

Married to Catherine Smoot Eason, they have three children; Phillip, Leigh and Sarah and one grandchild.

After 28 years of ordained ministry, Steve’s major focus in ministry is discipleship.  He comments, “If the word disciple means student, then we are called to be students of Christ.  If we are students of Christ then where is our classroom and what are we learning from him?”
