In the late 1970's, widespread political violence erupted into a brutal 12-year civil war in El Salvador. Today, it is the second most violent country in Latin America. There are high levels of domestic violence and a strong gang presence in their communities. At the root of this violence are unresolved issues dealing with poverty, social insecurity, low levels of schooling and migration. World Vision is implementing a three-year peace-building project in El Alfarero that wil include 210 sponsored children and teenagers, and 180 adult leaders. The goal: prevent violence and facilitate peace with a holistic approach that includes training, children's clubs, workshops and cultural festivals. |
