Michelle Thomas-Bush
Associate Pastor for Youth & Their Families

Michelle talks about . . .

BACKGROUND

I earned a bachelor of arts degree in family science from Montreat-Anderson College; my master of arts in Christian education from Presbyterian School of Christian Science; and a master of divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.  My pastoral experience has included congregations in Marietta, Georgia and in Jacksonville and Ocala, Florida.  I accepted the call to Myers Park Presbyterian in 2009.

FAITH

Being a person of faith is about radical hospitality, outrageous generosity and transparent prayer.  Being transformed by the grace of God is more than amazing.

THE CHURCH
There is a deep hunger in our society for a real and relevant faith community where a person can be welcomed, loved and challenged.  I believe that a church must be the incarnation of God’s love in this world and equip its members to live in that love.  We must be bold in our claim that our church is relevant and live into that boldness.

MINISTRY
As a Minister of Word and Sacrament, it is my primary job to share the rich and abundant love of God.  The gospel of Jesus Christ compels me to live in hospitality, discipleship and mission.  As the body of Christ, we are called to practice resurrection, and it is my hope that God calls me to a congregation that wants to join in that practice.

YOUTH
Some people ask, "Do you really want to do lock-ins at your age?"  I love that at 40, God still calls me to do ministry with young people at lock-ins, retreats, mission trips, morning prayer breakfasts AND at midnight vespers!  I am thrilled that I am called to join passionate adult leaders who accompany the youth of MPPC through both the joyous and the turbulent waters of adolescence.

MYERS PARK PRESBYTERIAN
I am excited to be the associate pastor for youth and their families at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.  There is a deep yearning and commitment here to build a transformative ministry with, and for, young people.  Join with us and help make this bold vision a reality.
