Millie Snyder
I earned a bachelor of arts degree with honors in psychology from Davidson College; my master of divinity with a concentration in preaching from Princeton Theological Seminary; and a doctor of ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary. I have served congregations in Rochester Hills, Mich. and in Matthews, N.C. I was called to Myers Park in August of 2004. I am married and have two daughters.
FAITH
When I was confirmed in junior high, the pastor chose a verse for me – Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” That verse has become my personal mission statement. I hope to live in a way that allows the light of Jesus Christ to shine through me.
THE CHURCH
The church is called to be a gracious community. The world is divided by nationalism, racial prejudice, class conflict, and intolerance. As the body of Christ, the church embodies God’s love in reconciliation and fellowship. The church offers community to all of us in a privatized society. We witness to grace when the love of God in Jesus Christ unites us.
MINISTRY
I understand ministry to be a life of spiritual companionship. I lead with the example of my own spiritual life, not as an exemplary disciple high on a pedestal, but as a companion on the journey of discipleship. Ministry involves articulating purpose and vision, equipping and empowering others, and liberating members for their own ministry.
SERVING AS EXECUTIVE PASTOR
My position at Myers Park challenges me to keep my eyes on the details without losing sight of the big picture. Our congregation seeks to foster discipleship in every ministry area and I am energized as I encourage collaboration and watch opportunities multiply.
MYERS PARK PRESBYTERIAN
What a privilege to serve alongside such a capable and competent staff, and alongside members with a deep commitment to Jesus Christ!
